Quad the now military Alliance of USA, Japan, Australia and India designed to check China has turned a threat to China main land and belt and Road Initiative. It has become functional and expanding as efforts are being made by USA that EU and NATO countries in addition to some more Asian countries join this alliance. The purpose is to confront or undermine China’s rise. Now China has named it “INDO-Pacific NATO” to start new cold war. If we monitor the Quad’s development it may be turned to be NATO plus.
It seems that Quad will be most difficult challenge to the Chinese rise in the years to come. Quad’s idea was initiated in 2004 Tsunami by the Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe when USA, Australia and India worked together on disaster response. In 2017, Abe invited USA, Australia and India in Manila to make a formal alliance. Then in October 2020 foreign Ministers of these countries met in Tokyo.
Though it remained in consideration of these countries but it took formal shape in March 2021 with Joe Biden took it seriously finding Australia and India’s desperation of Ladakh defeat and Chinese sanction on Australia. Now, these countries may drill in Strait of Taiwan to show their united military might in near future. It is now called “United States’ Pacific Deterrence” together with Quad Coordination and UK.
