The relationship between Pakistan and the United States have worsened with time and are an all-time low since Mr. Trump tweeted against Pakistan on New Year’s morning of USA. It seems that the Unites States under its new leadership has forsaken all forms of civilized diplomacy and rationality. It light of this the United States sponsored a move to place Pakistan on the list of countries financing terrorism. The irony of the matter is, this move was being spearheaded by the biggest financer of terrorism, United States itself. The main matter is that Pakistan is headed towards stability by way of CPEC and this does not sit well with the plans of US. US along with its partners UK, France and Germany supported the move to place Pakistan on the ‘Grey List’ of Finance action task force (FATF) in June. There have been many speculations as to the impact of such a move on Pakistan and its economy. In the words of Mr. Miftah Ismail, Pakistan’s economy faces no serious threat due to such a move. Mr. Miftah Ismail clearly highlighted that United States is not looking for a diplomatic solution to the real problem instead the American’s seek to embarrass Pakistan. Further, he threatening and bullying Pakistan in different ways, terrorism by ISIS and threat Tsunami in Pakistan. He highlighted Washington did not seem genuinely eager to see Pakistan boost its terrorist financing regulations and was instead bent on humiliating the country. Mr. Miftah Ismail stated that if it was the intent of Americans to work with Pakistan and improve Pakistan’s CTF (counter-terrorist financing) regulations, they would have taken Pakistan’s offer. Mr Ismail ruled out Pakistan’s retaliation against Washington over the FATF listing. He said the country would keep working to improve its CTF capabilities and win the confidence of Britain, Germany and France, who co-sponsored the US motion in Paris. Pakistan hoped to be removed from the grey list in six to 12 months from June, when it would be officially placed on the watch list, Mr. Ismail added. The adviser said he did not foresee the FATF decision acting as a brake on Pakistan’s economy, which, with growth above five per cent, is expanding at its fastest pace in a decade. United States under its current leadership is unaware of the unique and important position of Pakistan in the region. Seriousness of the matter is apparent from the fact that the county’s President is addicted to twitter and makes the most sensitive, irrational comments in his tweets. As long as United States is operating in this region they ties with Pakistan is of crucial nature, a fact which is evident form the attitude of the Central command chief and other experts monitoring this region. United States cannot operate in Afghanistan without Pakistan’s help. They need us and are making efforts to amend relationships. However, Mr. Trump and his team are doing everything in their power to de-stabilize, de-rail and embarrass Pakistan through empty threats. Placing Pakistan on the on list of countries fund terrorism will not have much impact on Pakistan’s economy particularly with the development of CPEC and Pakistan’s increasing importance as a result of it. Furthermore the implied threat of global isolation is no-existent as relations with Russia are improving whereas, China and Turkey are Pakistan’s friends for all seasons. In addition to the implication that Tsunami may hit the shore of Pakistan, particularly the shore of Karachi, is also out of the question considering the history, as there is no possibility of such an incident unless a man-made mischief is planned to which Pakistan is capable of responding in a befitting manner. In the end, Pakistan’s confidence is clear based on its economic standing and future outlook and so is the country’s sincerity to eliminating terrorism as result in can be concluded that such threatening actions of the United States will only create problems for itself and not hamper Pakistan’s growth in anyway.
